'“Katrina Cottages” were tiny and small house designs from a number of architects intended to allow households to quickly rebuild following the devastating 2005 hurricane that destroyed tens of thousands of houses along the U.S. Gulf Coast. Katrina Cottages were designed to resemble traditional homes in the affected areas, but were scaled down in size to reduce the cost and allow quick construction of many units. This version, by Virginia architects GMF+ Associates, is one of the larger ones having three bedrooms in a floor plan of 1,112 ft2 (103.3 m²).
